Nick the Impresario
As well as having been invited to deliver over 1,000 talks across the planet over the last thirty years, another significant part of my leadership has been collaborating to create, host and run inspiring, educational and life-affirming talks, workshops, seminars, trainings, conferences and community events. Since I started my own businesses in 1989, I have created and hosted well over 1,000 events live and online.
As an impresario and producer, I have created, marketed and hosted live events in and around London since 1989, and now increasingly online too. I have always loved being part of and leading groups. Energetically, I have always enjoyed “holding” events, creating a centre and spiritual core so that me, speakers and the audience can shine and be their best and where audience members and participants can receive high quality inspiration, insight and education.
All the events I create, produce and host are life-affirming, focusing on how to unwrap the gifts and goodness inherent in every human being.
I started with Transactional Analysis (TA)
In 1986, I went in to counselling and therapy with Juliette Pollitzer, who used TA as the basis of her work. I found TA really useful and in 1989, just after I quit my corporate career, I hosted my first event, a national conference for the Transactional Analysis community with 200 attendees and two-dozen speakers. When I was at an international TA conference in Oakland California in 1989 I also met Abe Wagner who has written two books about TA in management and organisations and I invited him to come to London from his home in Colorado and I hosted him several times. He was the first person I produced events for and then created speaking opportunities for myself as a result.
Alternatives at Saint James’s in Piccadilly London
As I got more deeply involved with Alternatives at Saint James’s I stepped into co-leading the project with Jane Turney. I went on to produce and host around 500 events for many the leading names in the world of creativity, personal and spiritual growth, and business for Alternatives. I produced events for Anita Roddick, Marianne Williamson, Deepak Chopra, Rupert Sheldrake, John Gray, Wayne Dyer, Susan Jeffers, Robert Holden, Robert Bly, Mike Dooley, Ram Dass, James Redfield, Lynne Franks, Paul Wilson, Gill Edwards, Shakti Gawain, Chuck Spezzano, Patch Adams, Donald Reeves, Matthew Fox. I also hosted hundreds of events for hundreds of less well-known authors and teachers in the field. Many of them I hosted on more than one occasion.
Collaborations through my own projects and businesses
I produced and hosted around 100 events through my first business, Personal and Professional Development and my following business, Heart at Work. Many of those events were around Transactional Analysis, which I had found very interesting, but also around inspiration, being entrepreneurial.
In 1994, I co-produced a project with my friend Ben Renshaw called Power Breakfast after we both attended workshops with Anthony Robbins in London. These were very motivational rather than inspirational. Ben and I went on to create The Joy Club, along with my partner Helen Bee, where we ran evening events aimed to support people experiencing more joy in their lives, and these were more inspirational.
In 1997, I co-produced the biggest personal and spiritual growth events in the UK with Mark Riminton and Peggy O’Hare. We produced two events with Deepak Chopra and Wayne Dyer on a double bill in London and Manchester Apollo’s. We attracted an audience of 2,500 in London and 700 in Manchester and national media coverage.
In 2002, I set up the Dreambuilders Community for inspired entrepreneurs with Barbara Winter and Niki Hignett, running events in London and Las Vegas.
Since 2006, my major business has been the Inspired Entrepreneur Community which I founded with Niki Hignett, and through Inspired Entrepreneur, I have produced and hosted around 500 events both for myself and Niki Hignett as well as many other leading names from the entrepreneurial, leadership, business, coaching and creative worlds. I have personally hosted events for Robert Holden, Richard Olivier, Barefoot Doctor, Emma Jones, Art Giser, John Williams, Sarah Alexander, Chantal Cooke, Penny Power, Gina Lazenby, Rachel Elnaugh, Judy Piatkus and dozens more speakers.
In 2012, Niki Hignett and I added the “Community Level Membership” to our offering and have hosted community meetings every month since April 2012.
I have also collaborated with The Institute of Leadership and Management, The Rainmaker Foundation, Alternatives, www.monster.co.uk, the University of Westminster, Thames Valley University, Kingston University, Barbara Winter, The Happiness Project and Solar Events. Nikki Slade, Gosia Gorna and I collaborated to create an event called Bliss at Work in 2009. Sarah Alexander and I collaborated to create the Spiritual Intelligence in Coaching programme in 2011. Beverley Glick and I have created and now collaborate on our Leadership and Storytelling programme.
In 2012, I co-produced and co-hosted the Personal Branding Telesummit with Oge Okosieme where we interviewed 12 of the worlds leading thinkers on personal branding. Over 4,000 people listened to this online.
What’s next for me?
In 2014 I have evolved my work into the Born to Lead community and I am transitioning my focus from being entrepreneurial to inspirational and spiritual leadership, working with leaders and emerging leaders in their fields. I will continue to produce and host live and online events for myself and my favourite friends, leaders and experts.
Do you have an idea for a live or online event we could collaborate on?
If you have an idea for an event that we might collaborate on, please drop me an e-mail with an A4 page that summarises your idea and we can talk.
Please be clear though that “wanting me to tell my community about your work” is not a collaboration. There needs to be a higher purpose we share beyond money, a mutual affection and understanding between us, and a friendship. Your desire to serve and contribute must come first.
